like in the news posted and this is all true as one of the most dangerous place to travel may just be Johor of Malaysia. It is not only unsafe for travellers but it's also very unsafe for the residents and business operators. this ramdom crime happening to many people on daily basic.
Kenny, a good friend of mine have a house in johor which got broke into numerous time! At one time, when the robber attempt to break in when kenny was at home resting on the second floor! when he suddenly heard people walking outside the house and trying to break in with metal rod and tools! Kenny quickly turn on all the light in the house and call the police and this what happen afterward.
Kenny calling the police conversation.
Kenny: Hello, someone trying to break into the house just minute ago!
Police: So did they break into the house?
Kenny: No.
Police: Are they still there?
Kenny: No. Are you going to send someone over?
Police: Yes.
Kenny: (gave the police the address)thankyou!
Kenny faithfully waited and waited till the second day morning!
You guess it! No police show up!
refused to paid off the police!

so couple years ago when John was driving on the highway(Freeway) in Malaysia. This is one of his to Kuala Lumpur-capital of Malaysia. A few of us just cruising at a bit more then regular speed and guess what? Just before we reach K.L (Kuala Lumpur), we saw this huge road block and every car was stop in the middle of this super new highway(Freeway).
it's scary to see so many police(dozen or more) on the road blocking the whole highway! So when the police finally approach our car and John rolled down the window.
The police officer: (something in Malay)
John: Sorry, i do not understand Malay!
The Police officer: you were speeding!
John: i was just driving and there were no car in front of us!
The Police officer: You were speeding!
John: ok
The police officer: So what do you want me to do?
John: Give me a chance!
The police officer: do you want a ticket or?
John got upset: Ok!
The police officer: You want a ticket?
John: yes, give me a ticket then.
The police officer: You know that you have to come back here to court to settle the fine?
John: Yes.
The police officer: So $50 dollars and you can go
John: Just the ticket please
The police officer: The ticket will cost you $250
John: fine i will pay for the ticket!
so at the end the police gave him a ticket and John got a ticket. He was not happy but rather pay more instead of giving into corrupted Police officer!
The idea here is you can do what ever you want when you are in that situation! Either you pay up or just pay to the government where you know who will get the money!
I paid off Malaysia Police officer

i was driving up to immigration during Malay new year of 2006 and this is a road on the country side where there are many small town around. As usual, i was driving a little faster than usual(80km/hr), and i sortof enjoying the music i had on and there aren't many car around. thinking back of my head, it's warning me that story about malay police usually work extra hard during the malay new year and needing more money than usual for the wifes and kids. Story of malay police will usually round up all the car in the high way in the middle of the road and wanting to give tickets to everyone. ( It happened to me a few time over the year!) it doesn't matter either you have overspeed, underspeed, regular speed, illegal over taking, orderly over taking, run red light, run green light or run yellow light! it's all the same during this sort of situation! get a ticket or pay up! Number of time i thought of filming the incident but when you look at flock of police officer blocking the road and asking for money then we better pay up!
anyway, this time when i saw the police road block then as one experience driver in malaysia and i know how to take care of this situation like obedience driver.
i quickly said: tolon(mispell for meaning please give me a chance)!
so as one very experience police officer as he is, he gently reply and put his hand inside the car thru the window: How?
immediately i reach in to my wallet and pulled out $20 ringgit (US$5) and put into his hand: telemakasa! (Thank you!)
